BookChoosing your carpet
Choosing your carpet can be tough with so many options available. Your budget will be one factor, but there are other considerations too, such as practical elements.
If you are carpeting a high-traffic area, such as a hallway, you might prefer a loop-pile or Berber carpet, which is durable and can hide dirt more easily. For a bedroom, you may prefer a softer pile. And if you have pets or kids, you probably want something easy to clean.
If you need a little help deciding, browse our range for inspiration, book a consultation or visit our Leeds showroom to view our complete collection.
Benefits of carpet
Carpet offers many benefits over other types of flooring. Because there are so many types of weave, style and construction, there are carpets to suit any budget and tastes. Different fibres offer different attributes, and there are no limitations on colour or pattern – almost anything is possible. Carpet naturally adds warmth to a room by providing a little extra insulation, and it’s much nicer to step on to a carpet with bare feet than it is cold tiles. And if you’ve got little ones, carpet offers a much softer landing for those little trips and falls.
What is carpet made from?
Carpet can be made from natural, synthetic or a mixture of fibres, including wool, nylon, acrylic, polyester and polypropylene. Each carpet is made by looping the yarn through the backing material; the loops can then be left as they are or cut at various lengths and angles. The size of the loops and the way they are cut determines the comfort, durability and feel.
Manmade fibres are often more stain-resistant and easier to clean. Wool carpets can be a little more expensive but offer natural warmth and can moderate humidity in the home. Wool mix carpets also have many advantages.
