Once you have chosen the colour and design of your flooring or carpet, you will soon realise that what ever option you choose, you will also need specific flooring accessories and trims.

This can be essential to complete your installation and can also be used to add as a design feature. It entirely depends of which type of flooring or carpet you choose.

To help you choose the best option for your home, here’s our guide on all flooring accessories and trims.

Beading (Scotia)

Floating Floor, Glue Down or Wood

There are essentially two types of flooring installation methods; click (floating floor) and glue down (dry back). A click floor will require an expansion gap around the perimeter of the room and a glue down will not.

The only exception to this rule, is wood flooring. Whether wood is click or glue, it will still need an expansion gap.

If you have chosen a flooring that needs an expansion gap, you will need a flooring accessory to cover the gap. The alternative to this would be chose to remove and refit your skirting boards. If you don’t want to start taking your skirting boards off, you have a few options of accessory to choose from.

Door Trims

There are a number of different door trims available on the market. So, whatever floor coverings you have, you can bridge the gap between each room. This isn’t always necessary if you have the same flooring through out. There are many different colours and finishes to choose from, so that you can ensure your door trims can either blend in or act as a design feature.

Z-Bar Profile

Z-Bar Profile

Z-Bar – A profile that connects carpet to flooring. They come in different depths, so that you can choose the right size for your flooring. This profile is only available in metal, as it needs to be strong enough to hold a carpet in place. Due to the strength required this type of profile is secured using screws.

Ramp – A profile that connects two types of flooring that are at different levels. This tends to happen if you have a flooring in one room that is much thicker than another. This profile is available in metal, HDF/MDF and wood.

Flat – A profile that connects flooring to flooring that is the same level. This type of profile is available as an stick down or screwed down. This can be used for carpet to carpet, and all other types of floor coverings.

Single Naplock

Single Naplock

Single Naplock – A profile that is used to connect carpet to carpet. Similar to a double naplock, but a thinner top surface. This profile is only available in metal, as it needs to be strong enough to hold a carpet in place. Due to the strength required this type of profile is secured using screws.

Dual Naplock – A profile that is used to connect carpet to carpet. Similar to a single naplock, but a wider top surface. This profile is only available in metal, as it needs to be strong enough to hold a carpet in place. Due to the strength required this type of profile is secured using screws.

If you still don’t like the idea of having any flooring accessories or trims, choosing a flooring that flows through your home will avoid the necessity for door trims. A glue down LVT will prevent the need for beading. For a flooring that requires an expansion gap, you can have your skirting boards removed and refit.
